Staying for Study Buddies is voluntary; students come when they have homework to do and only stay until their work is done! If your child is interested, ask for or have them get a form from their PrimeTime teacher and return the form to school. Be sure to communicate with your child about where to go or meet you when they are done each day.
NEWS FLASH!!
From Mrs. Halweg:
Math- This week we continued practicing multiplying numbers that include decimals. We have learned a variety of strategies to help in determining where to place the decimal in the product. Your student will be assessed over this skill on Thursday, November 10.
From Mr. Kelley:
Reading and Language: We are beginning a how-to process essay. The essay is to have a combination of media and text to explain a skill or task students are able to do (e.g., tie a tie, bake cookies, make a paper airplane). We are also studying how informational text is organized.
Social Studies: Students are studying the early explorers to the Americas from 1400-1600.
From Mrs. Nowack:
Science: We started our Solar System Unit by learning about the sun & other stars. Students should continue to make daily moon observations for a few more weeks.
Reading: Through guided reading groups, students have been identifying main idea and supporting details; they also finished reading their informational texts this week.
Language: Students have been busy revising their memoirs; this week focusing on run-on sentences and word choice.
Next week’s VIP: Grace
From Mr. Peterson:
Conferences: I sent an email with a link to student conferences. Look for it in your inbox, or check your Spam folder. You can see the schedule by visiting this link: https://goo.gl/r45O5U.
Science: We are learning about patterns of the sun, moon, seasons, and weather. HOMEWORK: I sent home a letter and data sheet for nightly Moon and night sky observations. For another copy, print out the letter and data table at this link: https://goo.gl/Y3YVki
Reading and Writing: We have been exploring informational text this week in the school library as well as our classroom library. We are in the middle of writing our Old Creamery Theater stories.
From Mrs. Suhr:
Social Studies - We began our unit on explorers to North America. This is such a fun unit. We pretended to “dive” to retrieve artifacts from a sunken ship. We used these artifacts to learn about the people that explored the “New World”. We’re learning how and why these people traveled to our continent.
Language - Students are typing drafts of their memoirs. Spelling lists are always handed out on Friday for the next week. Spelling tests are always on the last day of the week. We are practicing grammar and writing skills through DLR and Daily Writing.
Star of the Week: Next week’s star is Collin H.
