Got Shoes?
Now that winter is here, students are wearing winter boots to school. Please make sure your child has shoes to wear each day they wear boots to school. Students may bring an older pair of shoes to keep at school or in case they forget to bring shoes. Feet get hot and sweaty (and stinky) if boots are worn all day at school!

NEWS FLASH!!
From Mrs. Halweg:
Math- This week we learned about and practiced dividing numbers that involve decimal points. Your student will continue practicing this skill next week, with their next math test on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
From Mr. Kelley:
Reading and Language: Students have been participating in a book club in which they meet to discuss an assigned novel with other students. The deadline to finish the book is Wednesday. Students just finished a larger informational writing project. They posted their articles in their writing portfolios on kidblog.org.
Social Studies: Students began comparing the three colonial regions (13 colonies) - chapter 7 in the student text. Students are creating persuasive billboards to convince others to come to their chosen colony as they learn about these regions.
From Mrs. Nowack:
Science: Lessons this week have focused on the life cycle of products, reducing the amount of valuable materials extracted from the Earth, and extending the life cycle of products.
Reading: We are wrapping up the book, Freedom Crossing, an historical fiction novel. This week’s lessons were on character development. Students need to complete a book review (over their independent reading book) before the end of the quarter.
Language: This week students have been tackling confusing words!
VIP (week of Dec. 19): Xavier
From Mr. Peterson:
Science: We’ve been learning about uneven heating and cooling of earth materials and how the Earth heats unevenly. Next, we’ll learn three different ways that heat transfers (moves) from material to material – conduction, radiation, and convection.
Reading and Writing: We are researching and writing an informational piece based on the superb website called Wonderopolis. In the process, we are practicing research skills, reading a lot of great informational text, and using what we learned while we studied text structures in reading class.
From Mrs. Suhr:
Social Studies - We are currently learning about the 13 original colonies. We are also learning how the various colonies were alike and different from each other. There will be a test on this unit on Dec. 20.
Language - Students finished up their paragraphs this week and will be independently doing one more before break (due 12/22). Spelling lists are always handed out on Friday for the next week. Spelling tests are always on the last day of the week. We are practicing grammar and writing skills through DLR and Daily Writing.
Star of the Week next week: Lydia M.-R.
