5th Grade Newsletter

May 31 Last Day of School- start at 8/dismiss at 1:30
This will be the last newsletter of the year.
It has been a great year with these 5th graders; we wish them well in 6th grade!

NEWS FLASH!!
From Mrs. Halweg:
Math- In math this week your student was assessed over their knowledge and understanding of graphing and reading points on a coordinate plane.

From Mr. Kelley:
Reading and Language: Students created a memory book, reflection on their fifth grade year. Be sure to take a look and help them preserve this for them to look back on in the years to come.
Social Studies: We ended the year by finishing our 3-week civil war unit. Students learned learned about the people, places, and events of the civil war.
From Mrs. Nowack:
Science: We’re wrapping up the school year with a mini-unit on nutrition. Reading: We wrapped up the guided reading groups this week, we read a play, and reviewed different genres. Language: This week’s word work focused on acronyms and we reviewed figurative language.
From Mr. Peterson:
Science: We are finished our work on human impacts on the environment. Many thanks to Mr. Kelley for collaborating on this project!
Reading and Writing: We finished 1) a presentation on the refugees around the world; 2) a cool combo of poetry and informational text ala Joyce Sidman; and 3) descriptive writing about a made-up word using the book, Lost in Translation as a mentor.
From Mrs. Suhr:
Social Studies - Today was our last test in social studies over the Industrialization and the Modern U.S. Next week we have some extra social studies and culminating activities.
Language - We have finished our Persuasive letters. Next week, we’ll create short “School Year Memories” books.
