Staying for Study Buddies is voluntary; students come when they have homework to do and only stay until their work is done! If your child is interested, ask for or have them get a form from their PrimeTime teacher and return the form to school. Be sure to communicate with your child about where to go or meet you when they are done each day.
NEWS FLASH!!
From Mrs. Halweg:
Math- In math this week we finished our study of adding and subtracting decimals. Your student was assessed over these skills and shared their test with you. We also began our third unit of study on multiplying multi-digit whole numbers. This year your student will be learning the traditional method for multiplication.
From Mr. Kelley:
Social Studies - We have been learning about Native American tribes that lived here before the Europeans came to this continent. We are discussing how and why the regions that they lived in differed.
Reading and Language: We have been practicing our speaking and listening skills with various picture prompts. The students were encouraged to build on ideas and give evidence for their answers. We have been closely reading a story called “The Southpaw” written by Judith Viorst. In language, students are writing a fictional narrative.
From Mrs. Nowack:
Science: This week we have been investigating how nutrients get to single celled organisms and multicellular organisms. We’ve investigated with yeast and growing oat seeds! We will have a test on Tuesday.
Reading: This week’s lessons have been on summarizing and theme (these are topics we will work on throughout the year). Your child should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes at home each night.
Language: We continue to work on memoirs; this week students organized their ideas and started their first draft. Lessons have been on using words that describe emotion and compound subjects.
Next week’s VIP: Olivia
From Mr. Peterson:Science: We are moving into a learning unit on energy, matter, and organisms in which we will study how consumers get energy from the food they consume and how producers create their own food from water, air, sunlight, and nutrients. Reading and Writing: We are thinking a lot about themes in fictional narratives. We’ve been practicing looking for “clues” (evidence) in the text and developing ideas from that. We’ve also been working on citing evidence to back up our own ideas. Finally, after thinking a lot about characters and story elements, we are writing our own realistic fiction narratives.
From Mrs. Suhr:
Social Studies - After reading a bit about the positions of presidential candidates, we have started a unit on Native American cultures in North America during the 1400’s. We are learning that homes, clothing, and artifacts were closely related to the region in which they lived.
Language - Spelling lists are always handed out on Friday for the next week. Spelling tests are always on the last day of the week. We are practicing grammar and writing skills through DLR and Daily Writing. Students have been learning about tricky verbs and using descriptive words.
Star of the Week: Next week’s star is Bryss E. (Oct. 10).
