Math with Mrs. Halweg
Hybrid Math- This week in math we’ve started to wrap up our unit on multiplying and dividing with multi-digit numbers. Your student will be assessed over their knowledge of these skills next week on Tuesday, October 24.
Math 5-In math this week we started our new unit. Our current focus is practicing multiplying multi-digit whole numbers. We’ll be reviewing the standard algorithm for multiplication.
Language with Mr. Amundson
In Language class this week we started a new writing activity called, The Escape. The students spent time listening to a story called The Escape, and they are currently working on writing new endings to this suspenseful story. As a group our goal is to use descriptive words throughout our writing sample. We are planning on working on this into next week and then posting our stories for all other students to read and enjoy.
Reading with Mrs. Nowack
This week we have started some small group reading groups. All groups are reading non-fiction texts and are working on identifying main idea and supporting details.
Reminder: Students are expected to read from their IR daily (it should travel from home to school each day).
Science with Mr. Peterson
We are finishing up our long ecosystem unit. Our next unit will be unit that explores the particle nature of matter. We’ll begin our unit with a smell phenomenon. We’ll observe how long it take a smell to travel through the air from a point source to our noses!
What’s happening outside right now? I’ll post some videos that Larry Reis from Winneshiek County Conservation made over the last several years. Each video highlights some organisms that you might be able to see outside at this particular time of the year. This episode features swamp sparrows, awl asters and black walnuts.
5-P read aloud: Bits and pieces of My Life in Dog Years, Gary Paulsen
Social Studies with Mr. Fromm
What we did: Finishing up with some writing comparing Native American culture with our own.
Where we are going: Age of Exploration!
Questions/Prompts for your student: Can I see your writing?
