Math with Mrs. Halweg
Hybrid Math- In math this week we continued our unit of study on adding fractions and mixed numbers. We’ll continue this unit next week.
Math 5-This week in math we continued to practice multiplication with the standard algorithm. Next week we’ll continue to practice this skill and will start reviewing for our next test. The tentative test date is Nov. 13.
Language with Mr. Amundson
In Language class the past week we started writing comics. The students have enjoyed creating their own individual comic avatar to use in their comic writing. Our focus in comic writing is on using dialogue, proper grammar, punctuation, and to create a comic writing sample to share with their peers.
Reading with Mrs. Nowack
We have been studying genres of literature. In the last several weeks, we have read fantasy, realistic fiction, and a play. Our reading skills have focused on visualization and figurative language. Reminder: Students are expected to read from their IR daily (it should travel from home to school each day).
Science with Mr. Peterson
We’ve been using our “matter model” (the one that says all matter is made of particles too small to see) to explain evaporation of liquids. We are in the middle of conducting an investigation into a student question: Do all liquids evaporate the same amount as water?
What’s happening outside right now? I’ll post some videos that Larry Reis from Winneshiek County Conservation made over the last several years. Each video highlights some organisms that you might be able to see outside at this particular time of the year. This episode features tundra swans, sandhill cranes, and American tree sparrows.
Social Studies with Mr. Fromm
What we did: Investigating Jamestown by answering the question: Early Jamestown: Why did so many settlers die?
Where we are going: writing a response to the above question
Questions/Prompts for your student: Why did so many settlers at Jamestown die?
