Study Buddies: All DMS students are invited to Room 220 (Mrs. Suhr’s room) after school Monday - Thursday until 4:00 to have a quiet place to do work. Staying for Study Buddies is voluntary; students come when they have homework to do and only stay until their work is done! Be sure to communicate with your child about where to go or meet you when they are done.
NEWS FLASH!!
From Mrs. Halweg:
Math- Today in math, your student was assessed over their knowledge of volume and finding the volume of rectangular prisms. They’ll be bringing these tests home to share with you on Monday. Our next unit will focus on converting measurements within a given system. We’ll work with both the U.S. customary system and the metric system.
From Mr. Kelley:
Reading and Language: Students are analyzing various problem and solution informational texts. We will be researching various topics in order to create our own problem and solution projects.
Social Studies: Students will be studying Iowa history, culture, and government during the next few weeks.
From Mrs. Nowack:
Science: Student engineers have been busy building and testing prototype toy cars this week.
Reading: Students continued working in their small groups and wrapped up with the week with sharing their reader’s theatre with the rest of the class. Students should continue to read at least 20 minutes each night.
Language: This week students were introduced to persuasive writing and we’ve spent time preparing for the spellathon test.
From Mr. Peterson:
Science:We’ve been continuing our work with the particle nature of matter and physical properties of matter. We will move on to chemical properties of matter next week. Boom. :)
Reading and Writing: We’ve been comparing texts and answering the BIG QUESTION: Who is blind and who can see? We’ve been doing some academic comparative writing.
From Mrs. Suhr:
Social Studies - We have finished up our unit about the Constitutional Convention and will be learning about the Bill of Rights this week.
Language - We did a bit of review before our MAPs tests this week. We will soon be starting a unit on persuasive writing. Next week, we’ll be back to our regular spelling. Spelling lists are always handed out on Friday for the next week. Spelling tests are always on the last day of the week. We are practicing grammar and writing skills through DLR and Daily Writing.
